Contiki is no stranger to travel shows – we’ve exhibited and many of our sister brands from the Travel Corporation have participated with booths to showcase our wonderful trips abroad. Last year, we attended the LA Travel & Adventure Show (see recap here)- which is coming back to the Long Beach Convention Center on January 12-13, 2013! This travel show is one of 5 travel shows which visit Dallas, Los Angeles, Chicago, the Bay Area, and Washington D.C.
We know that a travel shows can be information overload because there are over 300 booths to visit, tons of speakers to see, and lots of activities to participate in! Here are our very own tips for navigating this year’s travel and adventure show. Will you be attending any of them? Let us know!
Tip #1: Sign up for show updates
By signing up for the show newsletter, you’ll be the first to know which speakers will be attending, what exhibits will be featured, and what activities you’ll want to participate in. You may also find out about special last minute travel deals and get promo codes to get discounted tickets on a future show near you!
Tip #2: The Early Bird Gets the Worm!
Doing everything in advance has its advantages – purchasing tickets online helps you avoid the lines at the door. Attending the travel show earlier also means closer and guaranteed parking (which can fill up fairly quickly as the day progresses), access to many of the booths before the crowds come flooding in, and the chance to experience many of the activities (like the rock wall).
Tip #3: Map Out the Expo
Mapping out the Expo floor is a great way to make sure you see the booths you’ve intended. Come to the expo with a list of destinations in mind and make a plan to hit up those venues first. Instead of wandering aimlessly, go with a purpose and come up with a schedule for yourself so you don’t miss out on any speakers or booths.
Tip #4: Bring or Make Address Labels
Chances are, there will be a lot of fantastic giveaways at every single booth you’ll be visiting. You may experience hand cramping from having to fill out your name and contact information over and over again. Make life easier and bring some pre-addressed labels with you so that all you have to do is stick it on there – not only will the booth exhibitors appreciate how legible your entry is, you’ll also save yourself time and not waste it filling out cards!
Tip #5: Equip Yourself with Questions
Often times, we wander through the travel show and see destinations that look extremely appealing and then we grab a brochure and bring it home and don’t know what to do with it next. Make each visit to the booths count with questions for the exhibitors. If you’re serious about a destination or tour, ask for inclusions, how long the flight times usually take from your hometown, or what time of year would be best to travel to that destination. These people are the destination experts – use them to your advantage!
These are just a few ways that you can make the most of the 2013 Los Angeles Travel and Adventure Show. We hope that this year, you decide to make travel one of your resolutions. Discover a destination you never thought you’d want to go to…but whatever, you do, go see the world!
