10 Contiki Questions with Instagram Photographer Kyle Kuiper

man with phone

Have you ever wondered what traveling to Egypt looks like through a photographer’s lens? We’ve teamed up with photographer and Instagrammer Kyle Kuiper (@kdkuiper) who will become a Contiki In-Depth Explorer and travel on our Egypt & The Nile trip to capture some amazing photos! We caught up with him as he prepares for his trip and asked him about his photography inspirations, his best travel advice, and why he thinks young Americans should see the world.

Today as I turn one day older, I also turn one year older, and with that I want to take this chance to thank you all so much for the incredible help you all have been in me chasing after my dreams. When I was in 7th grade I realized photography was something I absolutely love, and today I get to take pictures and tell stories with those images as my job. You guys on here are such an amazing community and I can’t thank you enough for the support as I keep dreaming bigger! Thank you!

Tell us about yourself (where you’re from, where you currently reside):

I grew up in Michigan but have now lived in San Diego for the past 4 years.

When did you first start taking photographs?

I fell in love with Photography in middle school and bought my firm Film SLR in 7th grade.

When did you discover Instagram/describe your photography style?

I have been on IG for around 3 years now, I would stay my style is pretty vibrant and I just love to capture the beauty around me in unique perspectives if possible

What do you love most about travel?

Name one item (or a few) that you cannot travel without?

For me the obvious one would be a camera or my iphone for photos, way before IG that was always the case, its just a passion of mine and I love documenting everything around me. Another thing I’d say is a good pair of shoes, traveling in uncomfortable shoes is the worst.

Why do you think it is important for young Americans, like yourself, to go out and see the world?

It gives a true appreciation for what we have in America but also you get to meet some of the most amazing people you could ever imagine. People in the locations you go to are what make your trips, the journey is what makes the destination special.

You’re going on Egypt & the Nile with Contiki.   What are you most looking forward to on your trip?

To be alongside others my age taking in everything that Egypt has to offer for us.

What other destinations have you traveled to?

I just recently came back from Finland in January, I have also been to most every state in the US along with Canada, the Caribbean and the Philippines.

Where do you want to travel next?

I have really been wanting to go to New Zealand as well as most of the European Countries

What advice would you give a first-time traveler?

Take advantage of everything you can while you are there, locals always know the best spots for food as well as the best time for the sights.
