Travel before Contiki

Hi all,
I am leaving for London in 3 days time to do the 25 day camping tour starting on 21st July. Thus I have a bunch of time before the tour to make my way to Athens for the start of the tour. I am planning to train my way from London - Netherlands - France - Spain - Italy on my way but have no idea of the best places to visit and the cheapest way to get there - am in desperate need of some advice!! Anyone who has travelled alone through the contries please help me out with any advice!
