Power Adaptors And Converters!!!?!

HI, I'm going on a european highlights tour at the end of April, and I borrowed converters from a friend..except all the instructions are in french.
Im going to need Eastern Europe and UK converters which I have, problem is I have an adapter to go with the Eastern European converter. It says they are good for 500W and 1600W items, and I don't know when I need this converter.. can i use things less then 500W? I'm so confused!!!
Please help!
