Question about Big Apple Explorer

I was wondering if during the first day of the tour we will have time to buy tickets for the Broadway show, or if we have to do it during the second day on our own, or we are expected to buy beforehand on the Internet. How people that do Big Apple Explorer are used to do it in JULY? (long lines?) Can someone from Contiki, explain it to me? It´s my first time in New York.
