Weather and crowds in Croatia, in Sept.???

Hey guys,
Just wondered what the weather and the crowds would be like if I took the trip in the middle of Sept.? I know August is usually the big month for Europe, but I can't imagine Sept. to empty out. The reason I ask is that I just took the Venetian Trail trip at the end of May, and we hit Pag Island Croatia on the first of June. Sadly the season hadn't started yet, and the beautiful resort island was pretty dead. Not something I'd want to duplicate. I also wondered if there is A/C on the boat at night when you finally get to bed. Would hate to be too hot while I sleep.
