You pay for your optional excursions all at once ahead of time. Your tour manager will pass out a list with all of the available excursions in the beginning of your trip. You then select the ones you want & pay for them in Euros. If you need a few days to collect the funds, your TM should be pretty flexible.
Since you’re going on the European Encounter tour, they offer Nouvelle Eve as one of the optionals. Not sure if this is the show you are asking advice about, but I would steer clear of this one. It was a COMPLETE waste of money. I really wish we had arranged tickets on our own to go see the real Moulin Rouge show. I have not seen that one, but I heard good things about it from the people that have.- 0 people like this

I’ve never heard of anyone who regretted visiting the Moulin Rouge, though I’m sure its not everyone’s thing.
Just had a look at your tour itinerary, since its a winter tour you will definitely visit the Moulin Rouge (and not the Nouvelle Eve). Also interesting to note that its your final night on tour…would you later regret not spending the night with your tourmates? Just something to think about.
As for finding something else to do, you’ll be in Paris, I’m sure you can come up with something

Optionals are paid in cash.
Optionals are paid in the first few days, and depending on your TM’s discretion/style and length of tour, the TM may allow 2 installments, the second being midway thru the tour.

The Moulin Rouge is not to be missed. Well worth the price tag. I was not a big fan of Cabaret but visiting Moulin Rouge certainly made me appreciate all the time and effort that goes into such an extroadinary show. Having a few wines also helped…hahahahaha

Hey AshleighTara,
Just wondering how you know if you are definately going to Moulin Rouge or not? I am travelling in Winter and our itinerary says Nouvelle Eve?- 0 people like this

what if we change our minds later on? I’m not sure if I’ll be able to decide on the first day which optionals I’ll want to do.. ie: initially opt out, but then decide to participate.

Unless the optional requires definite reservations and stipulates that there are no refunds beyond a certain amount of time prior to the event, then you should be able to get your money back. One such case is parapenting in Austria, since they must have enough tandem pilots for all the participants.

Why don’t we get given a detailed list of all of this with prices in our ‘Contiki Documents’?
It feels as if Contiki is wanting to spring things on you at the last minute so you’ll spend and say yes coz you haven’t actually got the time to think about it.
I feel for paying a trip min of 45 days in advance should have more info available, that’s just my personal take, please don’t jump down my throat.- 0 people like this

Every tour has all the associated optionals already posted online under the specific tour. Furthermore, your Contiki Docs will also include the optionals price and description.

I thought Moulin Rouge was good, not sure I would say it was great.
