LA To The Bay, Wild Western 9th June 2010

Hey All,

I recently got back from the LA to the bay tour which was from the 9th - 18th June 2010.
Before I left I had read some of the other reviews from the Wild Western which is part of this tour and then now getting back and re reading them they were so so similar so anyway ill give you a brief outline of my trip if I told you everything I would be going on and on and I cant be bothered writing lol.

Day 1 - Met up in the morning I cant remember what time, and signed in etc loaded up the bus and off we went, was a short trip to San Diego but for about an hour or more when we first left our TM (Ryan) gave us the long and boring information/safety talk thingy, I think half of the bus fell asleep. But anyway, when that was over and we got in to San Diego we did a tour of the city it was quite a nice city we then went on our Harbour cruise which was optional, I didnt like it, it was cold and there wasnt really a whole lot to see, we checked into our hotel and met later on for out first included dinner. Our dinner was at Dicks Last Resort beware they throw things at you. The food was average typical deep fried american food.

Day 2 - Had the option of Sea World or San Diego Zoo, you only had just under 5 hours which wasnt enough to see everything I went to the zoo which wasnt as good as I had expected but it was still good I didnt have time to see everything. Only 3 or 4 people went to sea world. We then went to Mission beach which again was freezing we stayed there for a bit then went back to the hotel this dinner tonight wasnt included but our TM organised a dinner at a mexican resturant most of us went then afterwards some people went out.

Day 3 - We headed off to Phoenix bags to the coach 7:45am (I will never forget that line) oh breakfast was included those two mornings. The drive was reasonably long I guess I cant remember, we got there some time in the afternoon and our TM had organized for us to go see a Baseball game I thought this was awesome when we got back we just hung by the pool for a bit.

Day 4 - Breakfast was included at Phoenix, wasnt too bad. Headed off to the Grand canyon today and for the people who did the hot air ballooning it was here, I didnt do that. We stopped at Sedona which was absolutely stunning and did our Jeep Tour, for anyone doubting whether to do this DO IT, it was so awesome its not some scenic drive it was so good. This was where we stopped for lunch but for people doing the jeep tour you dont get much time. A couple of hours later we arrived at the Grand canyon it was stunning at our first glances, we stayed in cabins here but they were find, we got one included dinner and breakfast here where you ate at the cafeteria massive portions and even to buy food it was cheap.

Day 5 - Free day at the grand canyon but there was the helicopter ride in the morning, DO THIS I did the short one and it was amazing, you just dont realise how big it is until you see it from above, some of the people who did the long one even saw snow. It was pretty cold of a night time up that high, I just went for a rim walk and a look around, was amazing and we all went and did the sunset at Hopi point at the canyon this was good also.

Day 6 - Ok, today everyone was super excited because today we headed off to Las Vegas the city that never shuts . Was quite a long drive today, we stopped in Seligman on route 66 which was good a very desolate town but so quiet just bought some souvenirs and then hit the road. We got to our hotel 45min before we had to be off again for our city tour and dinner, not alot of the girls were happy, i mean how long does it take to get ready, this was one of the times I was glad to not be 21 as I didnt have to worry about that. We went to dinner first at an italian place, food was ok you didnt get a choice they just bought out some pasta. Then we went on a city tour this was good to see the strip by night was amazing we also had our group photo infront of the Vegas sign , I really enjoyed Vegas and would like to go back one day. We went to Freemont st which was good as we saw the light show our surprise optional happened tonight, to be honest I had a feeling what it was and you'd think that contiki would change it at some point...but it was still fun. Most of the tour went out but the underages went back to the hotel and we had a walk along the strip at night was pretty good, saw the bellagio fountain etc.

Day 7 - Free day in Vegas, I went to the Stratosphere with a few girls to go on the rides, beware these are not for the faint hearted but afterwards well worth it, to get up the tower and go on all three rides unlimited it cost $35 which wasnt too bad. I then went on and saw the lions at the MGM Grand, and just went into different casino's etc, it was so hot in Vegas but not humid so it was bearable. Tonight we had the V Variety Show which alot of people went to, this was really good also again if you are in doubt just do it after the show our TM had organized stretch hummers and a party bus to cruise down the strip this was fun and so cheap, but again I think this has been done before...I did alot of forum reading before I left!.

Day 8 - Bass lake!, pretty boring scenery on the way there. Arrived at Bass lake in the afternoon and had a pizza party in one of the cabins, happened to be the one next to mine!, This is where we had quad share I didnt mind because I was travelling alone but for other girls that were traveling together they all got split up and alot of them were not happy! We got given 10 dollars each for breakfast, I didnt even spend mine lol. These two nights were a bit of a blur to me as these were the two nights I got rather wasted. But i had the best time ever.

Day 9 - We went to yosemite national park it was like almost a 2 hour drive to the park from where we were I dont think anyone anticipated it being that long. It was beautiful but again not enough time to go on walks and see everything but what I did see I liked.
Tonight there was an included dinner for everyone, was like a party because LA to the bay people were finishing aka me. Was just burgers salad and hot dogs. After dinner there was some drinking games like beer pong, man it looked nasty. Then we all went to the pub for drinks I managed to get in with the help of our TM and someone elses passport as the cops were checking ID's which surprised out TM. Anyway the rest of the night was just drinking and Karaoke and yeah I dont remember much else that i'd like to share.

Day 10 - Technically my last day on tour on our way to San Francisco alot of people were feeling delicate. This was a short drive we arrived in San Fran at 12:30 in time for lunch. We had it at fishermans wharf. We went on a tour of the city, it was freezing but we saw a fair bit I think I slept through most of the city tour. Checked into our hotel and said goodbye to some people I was staying in San Fran for two nights at the contiki hotel so I still ran into people. I decided to go on the Sunset cruise (LA to the bay people are more than welcome to do the optionals in San Fransisco if you want to, I didnt know that) the cruise was $40 with food and supposed to be unlimited drinks, you got 2 free drinks and small amount of nibbly type food. I didnt enjoy the cruise it was so rough and the boat wasnt all that big, and it was icy and so windy going up on deck so I dont think most people enjoyed it.

Anyway thats it really if you have any questions dont hesitate to contact me.

Happy to help.

Storme
