Luggage weight

Does the maximon luggage weight (20kg) include the daily personal bag or just the suitcase? Does ALL my stuff have to be under 20kg?

And, on a more stupid note, how do you weight your luggage at home? How can I know I'm under the limit, before I get to the airport??

No, the 20kg limit is just your suitcase, not your day bag. Having said that, you can’t tke another 15kg’s on the bus with you! All you’re allowed to take on the bus is an actual ‘day’ bag (wallet, passport, water)…stuff like that.

Do you have bathroom scales? Probably the best way to to weigh before you leave is to throw your suitcase on the bathroom scales. If you’re not sure about the reading then you get on the scales first, pick up the suitcase and work out the difference!

    Hi Marilia

The 20kgs is just for your suitcase, your hand luggage is seperate.

No question is stupid. Do you have scales at home – like the ones we dread to look at when we weight ourselves???? HA HA. I would just try and weight your suitcase with that. Although they may not be perfect, but it can give you an idea of what the weight.

i am leaving the day-after-tomorrow and i just packed about 90% of my suitcase.

it’s huge and buldging, but within the weight limit. is it okay that it’s buldging in shape?

and do you think it’s a giant problem that it’s hard to carry? i can drag it by the handle and wheels fine, and carry it for a short distance if i have to, and it’s even well within the weight limit…really, i’m just very weak.

i know it’ll get lighter as the trip goes on because a lot of it is toiletries (full sized shampoo, conditioner, etc) and i plan to throw out underwear and socks and things as i go (just to make room for new stuff though), but do you think it’s a major problem?

    i’m having a last-minute panick.

Hey dinnerlove, what size suitcase do you have? Im currently debating between duffels: a 59" linear that holds 6400 cubic inches and a 63.5" linear (expanded, I could compress it to the airline 62") that holds 8000ish. Trying to compare volume to picture sizes online is deceiving, even when they put it up to a mannequin. How many shirts/pants/socks did you pack and how long is your tour?

    Hey Marilia,
You can bring shampoo on the plane but it has to be in clear bag with the label clearly marked.

    Hope that helps.

Anyhing else you want to know, just ask.

Well to be safe, i would double check the site of the airline you’re taking or even the site of the airport.

Also keep in mind that airlines are strict about the weight of your luggage too and will oh so gladly charge you more money if you go over.

jeremy, my suitcase is about 1-2 inches in each direction smaller than what’s allowed. i’m not sure what that is linear-wise, but it’s NOT the largest. i went for one a teeny bit smaller because i thought it’d be easier to lug around (i’m pretty small)- but i’m kind of regretting it due to how jammed in and bulky it is now. i also went with one a little smaller because i figured that if i went any larger i’d pack more, and then the weight-limit would pose as a problem. i don’t think, really, it’s THAT big of a deal. either it’s bulky and jammed or it’s bigger to carry. i’d say it depends on how big YOU are.

also, marilia and loogie… you CAN’T bring any old liquid on a plane if you’re talking about carry-on. i was talking about my checked luggage, in which case liquid is fine in almost any size. in checked luggage it has to be of a certain size and it has to be in a clear zip-locked plastic bag. most of the time it’s something like 3oz containers in a 1-quart plastic bag, but it can vary a bit from country to country and from airline to airline. check it out online before you go.

also, i just found out i have to REPACK my luggage because my dad knows someone at british airways who said that if we dress up we might get bumped to first class. this sucks because now i have to pack my heavy jeans and heavy sneakers and hoodie that i was planning to wear and now i have to wear light little cutesy things. i sound like such and ungrateful snob, but this packing crap is driving me crazy.

    Thanks Laura Smiler<!--graemlin::)-->

Remember to leave room for souveneirs when you pack to. One way to pack lighter is to also buy clothing during trip & bring less.

Perhaps you can take some clothing that can be thrown out during trip.

You could always wear 5 layers of clothing on the plane. Joking.

you’re joking but i really AM wearing a lot of layers on the plane.

i plan to dispose of socks and underware as i go. actual clothing, we’ll have to see about; i love my stuff. also, like i said, a bunch of my stuff is heavy toiletrys, so those will be tossed right away. i think it’ll get lighter as i go. i hope.

oh also, jeremy, you asked how long i was going for. it’s gonna be a total of 23 nights (18 nights on tour + 5 on my own)

  • 17 Jul 2007 Jeremy said

I wouldn’t dispose of stinky socks, if you do a load or two in the sink they will be good enough. Plus they would make great padding if you buy shot glasses or beer steins.

good call on the padding. the undies can go though. i’m bringing a teeny bottle of detergent but i’m not particularly attached to my socks and undies.

i’m from new york, usa. where are you from?
