European Encounter--comments, advice!

My husband and I are going on the European Encounter July 9 to 26. Has anyone here done the Encounter, and do you have any helpful comments or advice about this particular trip?
I am concerned about the 'tourist traps"--the perfumery sounds like a giant commercial to buy perfume--that sort of thing.
Does anyone know of any things to see and do that are off the beaten path, ie flea markets, etc? Thanks!
