I'm a soon to be first-time Contiki-er, and just had a bit of an 'aha!' moment.
I frequent this website, because I absolutely adore the photography and the fashion:

He shoots all over the world, and if you look on the right-hand side of his blog, you will see that his archives are sorted by month. So you can click on a month, browse through to see if there is a helpful location, and see how/what the natives are dressing in for that climate! Italy and France (generally Paris and Milan, but sometimes Florence, et cetera) are regular locations, as is London.
Hope this helps some folks out a bit
