How is everyone paying for their trip???
11 Jun 2008 cityrose25 asked
I just learned about Contiki not to long ago,and I really want to go this summer to europe. If I knew about this sooner I could have planned, and saved money but I haven't. So I was wondering, most people save up money for their trips. But has anyone just said what the heck, and just took out a loan,or used visa cards to pay for their trip...because I have my heart set on summer time, and I don't want to have to wait till next summer... I'm thinking of going in August,so I can save some money in July...but of course it won't be enough...Thanks!

I was originally going to take out a loan and worry about it when i got back, but then I decided to actually save up for it. It is such a great feeling when you finally reach that financial goal you’ve set for yourself and book everything, just imagining how much you’re going to enjoy yourself & get home with a bunch of great memories and not a massive debt!

The beauty of Contiki, in my opinion, is that you can figure out a time when you want to go, and set up something with your travel agent where you can send in monthly payments. Instead of paying it off in one lump. I paid off my trip within two months. I didn’t have money saved up-unfortunately. But it’s a great relief knowing you don’t have to pay upfront. Of course you need to pay off before you go on your trip – duh.

Hiya!!
well me and my friend claire just discoverd this aswell! we wanted to go a euro trip and we wer going 2 do it ourselves but it would have worked out alot more expensive.
so we book up 2moro 4 the Euro Camping, we’ve basically got 3/4 weeks 2 come up with £749 which is pretty mad considering we are both students :S
The plan is 2 work as many hours as possible maybe take on a P.R Job for extra cash. We are doing car boot sales and selling stuff on ebay just for some extra money.
and for spending money…basically save up as much money again in the 6 weeks we’ll have left till the trip.
bit mad i know but hopefully it’ll be worth it

A close family member moved to Switzerland in April this year and I was missing them so bad that I decided I would go to Europe at the end of the year. So that gave me roughly an eight month time frame to save enough money to pay for Contiki, pay for the travelling outside of the Contiki tour, food, accomodation and anything else I want to buy.
To be honest, my partner and another relative are helping me out a bit but in the past two months I’ve managed to save…I’ve got an online savings account with great interest; I put a little more than half my pay every payday and I’ve become a bit of a tightass.
But it’ll all be worth it in the end.- 0 people like this

im saving…. a lot… im planning on staying on in the UK for a couple of years after, so have to save enough to get a visa… 2 extra jobs and being a complete tightass is working so far…+ the added bonus of having 10 weeks of holiday pay owing to me when i resign is going to help a lot!!

My wife and I decided this is what we were going to do just after we’ve got married and in the last 18 months we have saved $25,000 and paid off two cars! It’s an awesome feeling to be able to reach those goals.
And now, although things seem to be going south with Visas etc, we’re still determined to have a good time.
We have taken out a $3,000 credit card just in case as well but we’re not planning to use it.
The best advice we can give is save like your life depends on it! You might have to forgo going out every night of the week but it’ll be worth it in the end.- 0 people like this

lol for the past 5 years I’ve been saving to go on a trip to the other side of the world – but life kept getting in the way…crap kept happening and the saving just wasn’t happening – So I went to my bank and talked about a loan but instead they recommended taking out a small second mortgage to cover the cost of my trip and contiki and accommodation outside of contiki and I am definitely not regretting it….its costing me stuff all to pay back and I’m finally able to do something I’ve been dreaming about for years
