Hi,

My bf and i are spending a week in London before our Euro Vista tour and are wanting to do a day tour to Wales. My pop is Welsh so ive always wanted to go.

Does anyone know of any companies that run day tours or is it easy enough to get there and back by ourselves on a train?

Any help is greatly appreciated Big Grin

    Hi,

I traveled from East Sussex (about an hour and half south of London) to Wales. As I recall, it took about 4.5 hours. However, the length of the trip was delayed a bit because they were doing construction on the tracks so it took longer than usual. I do remember the trip seemed to go by pretty quickly and visiting Wales was worth the trip. If you go to Cardiff, check out Cardiff Castle or take a bus to The Museum of Welsh Life on the outskirts of town — it was great, and free too! Enjoy your trip!

Try looking at the national rail website for an idea about trains: National rail

Cheapest tickets will probably be advance singles which can be collected from the station.

Whereabouts in Wales are you planning on going? North Wales and South Wales are pretty different to each other- almost a different language!

Cardiff & south Wales are probably reachable in a day (2 hours to Cardiff on a normal day) and you could reach Bangor in North Wales in 3 hours but to get to mid-Wales you would need to change in Birmingham and it’s probably more like 4 hours.

Try haggis, they’re pretty cheap and have a good reputation, at least in Scotland.

    Try www.thetrainline.com

We were going to do a day trip to Liverpool but we found it was very expensive because we were travling at peak times. Eg. 8am and 6pm.

We have found if we choose off peak times and stay the night, that is a much cheaper option. They have a hotel & train package on there.

You can only book 90 days before hand and wait until about 60 days before travel because the deals are better.
