I'll be heading out July 11 2009 on the European Inspiration tour.

I assume that there should be no problem with my taking a regular bookbag-sized backpack. Is this a safe assumption?

Thanks!

If you are planning on ONLY taking that, id suggest you rethink it for a number of reasons. But if you are taking that as a second bag or the daybag, id say go for it, pretty well everyone on my tour had either a backpack or a messenger bag with them for walking round the city, I normally had my camera/jacket/map in mine.

I agree. If you are using it as just a carry on thats fine. but if you are taking it as your ONLY bag rethink that. I took a packsafe daypack and a small suitcase. I had to buy a suitcase to bring back the stuff I bought while I was there. You are also only alloud to bring 1 carry on and one small personal item onto the plane.

I would also rethink having a backpack to carry stuff around durring the day. Most theft is from people not paying attention to their backpacks as they get unzipped or slashed.
