Grand Southern 2015 Money Tips & Advice

16 Feb 2014 Tildsley_92 asked

I Know it's still nearly a year away but I am planning to go on the Grand Southern in January 2015 and I was wandering what is the minimum amount someone should bring (Especially considering we go to Vegas & how should we access our money.
This will be my first ever holiday overseas so kind of new to it all.

Also is there anybody else who is thinking about going on this tour?

Does this one leave on the 8th Jan? Myself and three other girls have booked to do the first section (LA – New Orleans)! Any info on what to pack for winter and how much money to take would be greatly appreciated! This will be our first Contiki :)

    Hey guys,

I’m about to book the grand Southern leaving LA on the 8th January, I’m travelling solo so I’m glad other people are on the tour haha

I have done some travelling before and spent a little bit of time in the USA, I used the Commonwealth bank travel card which works just like a debit or credit card. You put money on it before you leave and you can use it over there just like you would your normal card you use in Australia. you can get cash out of ATMs with it and you can also pay for your shopping, food or whatever using the card.
I had a friend who went to the US in December just gone and I also had a friend who lived just outside New York for a year and they both said to layer your clothes because in winter its freezing outside but once you go inside buildings the heaters make it hot
Also the mistake I made last time was I packed heapsssss of clothes etc but this time I am taking an empty suitcase and going nuts on the shopping haha I bought about 10 pairs of heels and like 5 pairs of sneakers last time, they have everything!!

Are you guys doing any other contiki trips while you are in the US? Oh and I have don contiki before, its full on and go go go all the time but its so worth it! the long bus rides are usually used for catching up on sleep :)

    I hope this helps!!

@Meaghan – Hey, I just made my booking a couple of days ago, getting pretty keen :)

Do you know anyone who has been on this tour and how much did they spend Approx.?

Also how long does it take to receive your confirmation email from conitki?

Nah I don’t know anyone that’s been on it so I’m not sure about spending money

You don’t receive your paperwork until just before you leave, so you probably won’t get them until December but you should have been given a booking number which allows you to access the contiki meet up page for the tour. Did you book through contiki or a travel agent?

    I booked through Flight Centre.

My mate said it cost him about $4,000AUD and he came back with money – but seeing as VEGAS is involved I plan to take $8,000 :)
