Solo Trip Melbourne up to Cairns Dec. 2014

13 Mar 2014 aamato20 asked

So, I'm starting down in Melbourne, then on to Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, and then Cairns. Any suggestions for places to go? I'll be there from Dec. 7-22. First time to Australia (and NZ) and headed out there by myself. I'd love to make some new friends and get a feel for the local vibe. I've heard good things about wine country in Melbourne and I also love kayaking/swimming/scuba. Any and all suggestions and possible friends welcome!

Hey – I live in Melbourne. If possible, make your way down the Mornington Peninsula when in Melbourne. Great wineries, food, beaches. The Great Ocean Road, Phillip Island are also great to see. Yarra Valley is also known for great wine. It depends how much time you have – but definitely head down the peninsula!

As for the city just walk around! You’ll find the most awesome coffee shops and nightclubs/bars in the most unexpected places. Melbourne is full of lane ways and hidden alleys – just keep your eyes peeled! , Head to Southbank, Crown Casino, Melbourne Central (for some shopping), Bridge Road, Chapel Street, MCG (if you’re into sport), St Kilda.

SO much to do! Have a great time!
