    hey there
I did this trip this summer and hey the money depends on you!! I would defo do all the optionals – some are gr8 some are not but most of the group does them so I guess the company is worth going!! I would get the money for all of them – you can decide not to do them and hey then you have more spending money!!!
I think the amount you drink is a big thing – I would guess 30 – 40 euro a day will be enough for lunches and getting into places – some days are bus days so you do not spend much and other city days you may spend a bit more
    Hope that helps
Drop me a line if you have any other questions please just ask.
    Jo

PS you are gonna be blown away by the places you will get to see!!!

They way I am working out how much spending money I will need is that I am adding up the cost of all the optionals and adding a couple of hundred dollars onto that just to be safe, even though I won’t doing all of them. As well as taking as much spending money as I possibilty can (I am aiming for $5000 and anything over is a bonus). So I know that I will have enough money for any of the optionals I choose to do plus money for souvenirs, food and entry into various places. Hopefully with money left over at the end if I stick to my budget. Razzer<!--graemlin::p-->

If you are planning on drinking a fair amount while you are there I would suggest budgeting for that too. I don’t drink so that saves me some money.

I am also going to get a credit card before I go for emergencys and cancel it when I get back.

    Hey all,

I went to the Europe travel show at the Brisbane Convention Centre to look around. Most of it was offering good values on flights tour etc.
I’m doing the March 28 Ultimate European (plus Egypt all paid in full). As such, i missed out on the early bird deals though it was more than six months prior to when i booked because the tour was 3 days early (my travel agent tried but couldn’t get it). Plus by booking when i missed the Contiki deals they were giving away at the Expo. Could have saved around $800 with both of them but no such luck. Doesn’t really bother me though since i could afford it.

Anyway, my biggest concern has been the budget especially with the Aussie dollar in its current State. I talked to the Contiki travel reps there and they advised me that a budget of $100(Aus) a day should be more than enough, or $150 for the “party” budget. plus i’ll budget around $1,500 (Aus) for the optionals. but i’m just going to save up as much i can and if i don’t spend it all i have safety mobney for when i return. I also have a $1,000 credit card which i will increase to $2,500 for the trip.

I was also recommended to get a debit card and primarily use that (with Credit Card as back. Don’t forget to notify the bank before you leave as if you don’t your bank my register your spending as abnormal and cancel your card), rather than travellers cheques or converting into cash before the tour. After talking to them on the weekend it really put my mind at ease with budgeting. PS. remember to bring Fabreeze or other odor removers for your clothes as dirty day clothes is likely to be the norm. I was also recommended to bring out of those “head lights” where you strap to your head. It seems wierd but i’m sure they’ll be heaps of uses for it when over there. the TM said they were normally popular.

    Cheers
    Martin
