Hi,

I'm booking the Canada and the Rockies tour on 2nd July next year - It's my first overseas trip and i'll be going by myself...

I have allocated 4 days after the trip in Vancouver to explore - However, anyone who has been on the tour, how much of vancouver does contiki cover on the tour?? Is 4 days enough/too much time to spend there afterwards??

Also, how much is admission to the Calgary stampede? How much would one expect to spend whilst there?

Thanks fellow travellers!

    Hey,

I did the Rockies tour in August this year, and it was so much fun. Depends on the timing, but we were running heaps late when we came back to Vancouver, so pretty much got a quick tour of the city from the bus, then went on the cruise, then the tour ended the next morning. But there is definately heaps of stuff to do in Vancouver. I have been living here for the last 4 months, and 4 days is enough to see all the reallly good touristy things. Make sure u see Stanley Park (cycling around the sea wall), Grouse Mountain, Granville Island, go up the Harbour Centre tower, and just generally wandering around downtown, some good shopping too. Hope u have a great time!

Calgary will be extremely crowded during the Stampede—expect delays in traffic, avoid travelling during rush hour, and if you take a cab, be prepared to pay big time. Calgary has some neat stores in the Kensington area of town. If you will be in Alberta for awhile, try heading up to Edmonton—a two hour trip north of Calgary (buses leaving several times daily). Edmonton has the world’s biggest mall—a must see! Calgary is a good party town especially during the Stampede.

The weather in july is mild, but can be very hot.

he he he. sorry you are probably wondering why i found that funny.

I lived in Vancouver all last (northern hemisphere) summer, right near the beach in the west end. and it was NEVER hot, let alone very hot. There were three days where it got up to 27 or 28 degrees celcius and all my neighbours were complaining that they couldnt stand it. lol. But it was too cool to even swim in the ocean, although it was pretty at English bay.

Yeah def. head to Capilano Suspention bridge and if your adventurous try climbing the grouse grind (it was save you like $30 CAN if you dont wanna pay the gondola) at Grouse mountain (pronounces gross) Stanley park is great.. you will get so excited when you see the squirells, although the canuks wont understand the fasination.. they are SOOO adorable!
A word of caution tho, be prepared to see alot of homless people. They are everywhere downtown. Its really sad. We dont have anything
    like that in Australia!!
    But its an experience.

Try the Five Alive.. I miss it so much. Its a citrus fruit juice mix. wow im random!

    Hi,

I live just outside of Vancouver but am down here everyday for work. I work in what most people..including myself..call a giant silver golf ball Big Grin<!--graemlin::D-->.

Try looking at the tourism website for vancouver
    http://tourismvancouver.com/visitors/
It has most everything you would want to know on there. Definitely try and make it over to Vancouver Island, the suspension bridge is great, Granville Island, Robson St is great for shopping although it is Very busy, 4th Ave is good shopping as well, there’s tons more to do here.

As for renting a place there are a couple of websites but you could also have luck if you meet people in the hostels and rent with them (much cheaper option).

If you have any questions email me butterfly_faery@hotmail.com

    Hey,
I live in Victoria and if you have time to come over to the island, it is a great experience! While Vancouver is great, I have always liked the smaller side of Victoria. There are great places to visit like China Town, the wax museum, the BC Museum, and many other places.
