  I think its better on your own. I think it costs a little more on the tour but its so easy doing it by yourself and you can go at your own pace.
  Check out the Hop On Hop Off BusCompany. They do day trips around London and you can hop on and hop off whenever you like.You can also just use public transport and do it easily too.
  I was there a year or so ago and spent the 4 days taking myself around and it was fine. Easy to do and transport is pretty good.
