Moving one way to the UK - any suggestions?

Hi!
I am moving to the UK Halloween this year and need as much advice as possible.
I am coming from Australia and have never been there before so any info is appreciated :-)
Does any one also know what is the best thing to do as a solo traveler to meet others?
