Christmas in Thailand / December 2011-January 2012

Hey!
I'm looking to do a 2 - 2 1/2 week trip around Thailand over Christmas and the New Year...haven't decided exactly where yet, interested in spending a week exploring the sites (maybe 1-2 cities, the national park, jungle, kayaking, hiking) and a week island hopping.
Anyone else thinking of doing the same / similar?

Is that the one on Ko Samui? Is it on New Years? I’d planned to be doing the island hopping by then! Just wasn’t sure whether to do west or east.
