Travelling on travellers cheques

Hi guys.
Ive read a fair bit about this already but
thought Id put this to the masses.
Is using travellers cheques to travel a
bad idea or not. Is it best to change into
cash as much as poss.
The reason is, Im considering buying early to
take advantage of good exchange rates, something that cant be guaranteed at the time.
Your thoughts ... ?
