Hi Claire! Nice to meet someone also confirmed for this trip!
I’m from Canada, just getting away for a few weeks between final exams and Christmas. I ski (and snowboard) like every second weekend in the winter, and will probably rent gear for both depending on the group.
For the cold weather, I’m just bringing a base layer, jacket, pants, gloves, toque, and goggles. It looks like you can even rent all that gear at a place in town called Tahoe Dave’s if you’re missing anything.
So where are you going on your trip around the world, and when do you think you’ll be arriving in Las Vegas? I’m flying in Saturday night, off to the Grand Canyon all day Sunday, back in town for Monday.
Hopefully we’ll be able to find one another, maybe meet some of the others on the tour! Have you thought about any of the optional trips, I think I read we have to book the Alcatraz tour in advance or something.Anyway, nice to have met you, talk to you again I hope,

Hey Jesse,
Yep i’m booked in to stay at Harrah’s on the 11th and 12th. I just looked up the hotel on the internet and booked that way though as it was substantially cheaper! Are you booking that hotel too?

Yeah, I’m also staying at Harrah’s on the 11th & 12th, maybe we’ll find each other there before the tour! Have you ever been to Vegas before? I’ve been, once, but it was with my parents when I was 13 (so… not really, I guess.) But I have friends who go all the time who’ve given me a bunch of things not to miss. You?

My only real plans right now are Cirque du Soleil Saturday night and the Grand Canyon all day Sunday. Everything after that’s up in the air, but we could easily make a day out of just walking the strip. There’s the fountains at the Bellagio, Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, the Stratosphere roller coaster, the gondolas at the Venetian, shopping at Caesar’s Palace, the Titanic exhibition at Luxor, Madam Tussaud’s wax museum, amazing bars and restaurants, and wow I sound like a travel agent… Anyway, there’s definitely something to fill the time before the tour starts. You should have my full name in your email so I’m sure we can find each other somehow. Hopefully we’ll figure something out. Until then, it’s day one for skiing tomorrow (with my cousin from Melbourne no less) so we’ll see how quickly it comes back!

hey everyone sorry I have been away travelling and didnt realise I had all these answers to my question haha!
So exciting, not long now.. So my last contiki was awesome, had a brilliant time! Our tour manager was great and really went the extra mile. I have never been skiing before so will probably opt for some lessons and hire the gear :)
Being from australia this cold has taken some getting used to! I know america will be even colder!
i get to vegas on the sunday and am staying the pre-night at harrahs as well.. i was thinking of booking to see cirque du soleil so if anyone is interessted in doing that on sunday let me know!
Well looking forward to meeting you all, have made some awesome friends on my previous contiki so should be fun!

Hey Claire, glad to hear you’ve survived Europe so far! Looking forward to meeting you in Vegas and hearing all about it. I would so join you for Cirque du Soleil, but I’ll be driving back from Arizona at like midnight on Sunday and already have tickets for Cirque’s KA on Saturday night. Guess we’ll have to pack it all into Monday.
So since you’ve done this whole Contiki thing once already, can you answer some obvious questions for someone who’s never been? Did you ever need really dressy clothes, like something more than jeans? How about athletic gear, like running shoes or anything? Anything else you’d never think about till you’re there? Aspirin?

Sounds like you’ve done your research Jesse! Are you guys planning on having phones whilst you are away? I’m debating whether it’s worth purchasing a US sim card while I’m away or just using Internet to contact friends. One week today til I leave so very excited!

So some things about contiki- yes there were nights we dressed up because sometimes going out for contiki dinner was followed by a bar or club. In saying this though some people did not really dress up and got away with casual kind of clothes in alot of the places- except for example places like the Monaco casino. Keep in mind though this was Europe and our your guide really went te extra mile to get us freebies at clubs and pubs. I would bring at least 1 nice outfit, just in Case. Me personally I liked having a good going out outfit for those special nights and it made it all the more fun ! Yes bring a medical kit so like ibuprofen panadol bandaids. So many people got sick on tour but we were on for 2 weeks so shouldn’t be so bad with just 8 days this time as it wad a bus full of germs and it’s hard to escape catching it. Don’t bother with washing powder you never have time to wash, so just make sure you bring enough underwear to last you lol. Most hotels had wifi or wifi in the lobby – so was never without Internet for more than a couple of days. Hopefully this helps let me
Know if you have any more questions, oh an also you choose your optional activities on
The first day and then pay cash upfront :)- 0 people like this

Hey guys, can you believe we’re only a few days away? Hope we do find each other at the hotel on Monday! For my part, I will be bringing my cell phone, my plan just adds roaming fees in the US. But at least we’ll have something for calling cabs, getting maps, or calling others if we separate. As for packing, I’ll definitely bring some going-out clothes but nothing too over-the-top. Thanks so much Claire for saving me from packing anything ridiculous. The conditions at Heavenly look … not great right now … but I’m sure we’ll make something of it. Safe trips guys! Just one more final exam and one more hockey game to go!
