Question

what happens on "free" day(no activities planned)

Doing the Winter wanderer in Dec. Very nervous as I have read bad review on this tour (in this forum) saying it's a waste of time and money.
Looking at the itinerary, 2nd day in Paris has no activities planned. Does this mean the bus will not pick us up? we are having this day as F&E? will optional tours usually fall on days like this?

And to sidetrack from the topic- how can we tell from the itinerary which days are bus days (just sit on the bus travelling)
thanks

    Hi,

Have you checked our Reviews section? http://contiki.com/destinations/europe/tours/163-winter-wanderer/reviews.

Day 2 is a free day to explore Paris. It’s such a big city so we find most people want to do different things to others – so you could visit museums, go shopping, have lunch in typical cafe, sightsee… the choice is yours, but your Tour Manager will help out with a few ideas if you’re stuck for things to do. The optional activity available that day is the Moulin Rouge dinner and show (it’s great fun).

Your Tour Manager will let you know if there’ll be a pick up and where/what time. Otherwise if you want to make your own way back, the hotels are generally near a Metro Station and it’s reasonably quick to get back.

You can take a look at the itinerary here: http://contiki.com/destinations/europe/tours/163-winter-wanderer. You have a bit of distance to cover so some days you’ll have a full day of travel (plus a few additional activities that day eg stopping off in PIsa en route to Florence) whilst other days will have a free day to check out the city – the itinerary description should give you an idea, but you can also click on the interactive map underneath the main map to see how far you’ll travel.

    Hope that helps,

On our free days our tour manager gave us a google map and marked where all the major attractions were. He also taught us some of the different languages g French, Italian, German. He also gave us a page of other things we should do and some of the food specialties to try. I’m planning my next Contiki trip already for 2012! – Usually Day 1 was the Bus day! The only day our optionals fell on our free day were in Venice. That was the walking tour and the Goldola ride!
