Help!! Day bag and purse questions

I am leaving this afternoon with my friends for the European Discovery. Two of us were wondering if the day bag is supposed to be your purse or can you have a day bag and a purse? For my day bag, I'm planning on bringing a backpack with things to do on the bus and then a purse to take with me while I'm in each city. Finally, can we leave a bag on the bus while we are in each city? Thanks in advance for all your help!
