Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has stayed at BASE Auckland Central Backpackers before, or knows of someone who has. Is it good? Central to the city? What transport did you take from the air port and how much did it cost?

Ash

I’ve stayed at both Base camps in Auckland and they are both in downtown – central to everything. The one on Queen (#11 on the AIR BUS map) is much larger, with more services & larger rooms too. The one on Fort (#5 on the AIR BUS map) is 1 block away from ther Mercure, although Queen is not too far either ~ 15 minute walk.

There is a AIR BUS shuttle from the airport that departs every 20 minutes and stops at MOST of the downtown hotels & hostels locations for $15. You can get reduced $12 fare (20% discount) if you show the driver page 10 of your Contiki NZ travellers guide. You can also purchase reduced rate bus tickets from any of the backpackers hostels. There are MANY discounts offered at the backpackers for city attractionss.

Air Bus Schedule & Route (click on the map to enlarge) Mercure hotel is between #5 & #6 on the SE corner of Queen & Customs.
