Auckland and Christchuch accommodation

Was just wondering if anybody has got recommendations regarding hostels in Auckland or Christchurch. I was thinking of arriving two days early and departing two days after my tout finishes to see these two cities, and thus I wonder where to stay. Has anybody done the same thing? Thanks in advance!
