Hi Phoebe,
I did the big chill last summer and i had the most amazing time and experience. i would totally recommend this tour especially if your an outdoors type of person who loves to live in the outdoors and loves camping but at a much more comfortable level. The tour is well run and organised, everything from your daily itinerary, transports on the coach, meals, optional excusions etc its well worth the price you pay and way more cheaper then travelling indepentently and you get to meet a great group of like minded travellers. Its good to hear your saving heaps of money because the pound and euro once converted from australian dollars can sometime not be as much as you would like but to give you a good idea if you can save between $15000.00 and $20000.00 austalian dollars you will have plenty. i spent roughly $6800.00 on the tour cost, food fund for the tour, airfares, and travel insurance and that was with the early bird prices which i saved $400.00 AUD dollars (but you will have to pay the whole tour cost in one hit to secure discounts) and i would of had about $8000.00 AUD dollars in spending money which i was in the UK for 2 weeks and budget for $100.00 pounds a day ($1400.00 pounds) and the 46 days your way on your contiki tour i budget for $100.00 Euros a day (4600.00 Euros) but the more money you have the more you will have to spend to make your trip a comfortable one. If you have any questions you would like to ask and have answered please feel free to ask away and i will be more then happy to help answer them. Happy travels Jeff- 0 people like this

Hi ! I am departing on this tour in July this year :)
any advice on ESSENTIALS to take on this kind of camping trip that you may not think of straight away ?
And also- with your 100 euro a day spending money – how did you find it ? comfortable or durable ?
Thank you
Grace

Hey Grace, I put together a packing list which covered pretty much everything i need for the trip and quiet a few people on the contiki forum have asked me for a copy of it so if you would like a copy of this list i can forward a copy onto you if you like.
Regarding your questions on Essentials for this type of camping trip would be things like Quick Dry Towel instead of a normal towel, carrying a supply of toliet paper, Taking a small hand handle Torch, taking a small supply of clothes washing liquid for regular washes, taking a laundry bag to put dirty clothes into as you won’t want to mix dirty clothes with your clean clothes, Taking a travel pillow for the coach and for extra comfort in your tent when your sleeping, a small first aid kit (even though the contiki crew travel with a first aid kit on the coach its good to have one on you in case you need it when out travelling without your contiki crew).
With your question regarding the $100 Euros per day spending money i personally found it more then enough as your not going to spend $100 Euro everyday especially when you have long coach travel days the only thing you will spend money on is things like food and drinks at service stop so the days you don’t spend much will add up and you will have more money to spend on other day and there will be days where you will spend more then $100 Euros so in all it all evens out at the end of the tour but in saying that different people have different spending habits and some people may spend more then other.
I hope that helps and i hope you have a great time on your tour.
