Packing? Great Britain/ Ireland Sept 2012

This is my second contiki and am just wondering if anyone who has done this particular tour at this time of year can give me any tips on weather in both Scotland and Ireland. Last time I went to Europe I pack like an idiot, no thongs ( what kind of Aussie am I?). An points will be much appreciated.
