Has anyone traveled with there laptop and regretted it? Just debating on bringing my laptop. It would be nice to have internet access to email friends and family back home while I'm away cause of the 15 hour difference from where I live and Sydney. Also just found out that the hotels I'm staying in don't offer free internet or use Dial up. Being from the U.S. free internet is so common here and can get it anywhere and for Dial up, who still uses dial up lolol mad old school. Does anyone know if there are any internet cafe's around Sydney that are easy to access?

Do a search there are tons of topics on this subject especially in the European forum. I say don’t take it. Can you afford to replace it if it is stolen? If its just for the internet there are plenty of places to do that.

Hi I was just in Sydney in April and there is an internet cafe in the Coles supermarket on George St(main st in Sydney It’s across the road from the town hall. The internet cafe is on the second floor and easy to find and not that costly.Coles is also a good place to buy snacks at a good price.

I would say don’t bring it. Its to risky. there are internet points everywhere. Particularly in shopping centers. Granted they are usually not free. They usually only cost a couple of dollars to use.

i did beaches and reefs about 2 years ago and i took my laptop with me. i used it to watch dvds (before the existence of ipod video!) and to type out emails, blog entries, etc while we were on the bus and every place we stopped had several cafes that offered internet service so i would just buy a few minutes to upload all my info and send it out to friends and family. was much easier than trying to call home or call 20 people. it was also great to store my pictures on as well, and by the end, i was making cds for my tourmates.

it was totally worth it to bring mine with me. but thats just my opinion.

Umm…bringing it would definately be handy and useful for your pictures, the only thing is that you would have to lug it around with you, and trust me there’s not that much space on the bus, and the overhead compartments get full fast. It’s not in any way convenient to bring your laptop. If you want to send pictures home it might be more useful, but just keep in mind they will see them when you get home. Just think of storage for it during your trip. Although, it would probably be awesome for your flight, because it’s about a 14 and a half hour flight from LA so it would definately help time pass by. In the end it is totally up to you whether you want to risk taking it and risk it getting stolen or broken. There are pros and cons to it, if there’s more pros in your opinion bring it, if you think of more cons then leave it at home.

I bought an Asus Eee laptop, its not really good for storage of stuff because it has a small hard drive (only 4 G built in but i JUST bought a big memory stick for all my music) but its only 400 Canadian dollars so not really end of the world if its lost or stolen, plus its soooooo small (about the same dimensions and half the thickness of my Nintendo Wii), it fits in my purse and its really light. Plus its like made for travel so its got a different hard drive then most (sorry I’m not very technically savvy lol) so it can withstand more shaking and stuff. built in web cam and speakers. I bought it 2 months ago and its amazing! Plus it doesn’t run on windows, so its super user friendly…. which is good for me. Smiler<!--graemlin::)--> I took it out of the box, pluged it in and went online. I even got to pick a color…..lol, maybe I should be a Asus saleslady eh?

I’m a little worried about bringing mine too, but I’m doing a working holiday in New Zealand for 6 months before hand and I’ll need it to still do a bit of work I have at home (i’m a graphic designer).
Those little laptops look really cool. Great idea for the regular traveller. Wouldn’t do much for me though. Smiler<!--graemlin::)-->
