Soft luggage

I know that this has been touched on in a few different posts, but I am after an answer from a moderator or someone who knows for sure...

I don't have a suitcase of the dictated size (the only one I have is massive). I had planned on taking a bag that I own. It is a little bigger than the prescribed size, but because it is made of cloth instead of the hard stuff suitcases are made of, it's squishable. Is this an acceptable alternative to a suitcase? The trip is pretty expensive and I really don't want to have to buy a new suitcase for some stupid amount of money.

If you can help me out, please let me know ASAP.

Cheers,
-Ben.
