I haven’t stayed there, but I’ve visited it. It’s at one end of the strip, so if you wanted to go to the other end, you would have to take a bus. But, they do have $5 blackjack tables day and night, which is different from most other casinos. It’s also an older hotel, so it’s not as flashy as some of the others, but I’m sure it’s still a decent hotel.
I just came back from Vegas and stayed at the Aladdin. It’s right in the center of the strip and has a mile long shopping mall inside of it.
thanks for the info. My friend and I will most likely stay there while in Vegas rather than at the Contiki hotel, plus the Tropicana is quite close to the Contiki group so that will make it easier. We are able to get 2 nights at the Tropicana for about $60AU each per night which is good cos I think there is some big show on for the few days that we’re in Vegas and the other hotels have doubled their rates!
We will definitley be exploring the rest of the strip!
Have you done the chopper flight over Vegas at night?
No, didn’t do the chopper flight. Are you going to be in Vegas during the Miss American competition? I know that’s coming to Vegas soon. There is a really cool exhibit at the Tropicana right now, it’s the Body Exhibit. It’s really awesome, $20 USD if you’re staying in the hotel or a student. Defintiyl check it out.
Well we’ve booked our 2 nights at the Tropicana for $130AU each and are looking forward to seeing the exotic cats (magic) show and the showgirls show as well!
Any suggestions on a good place to shop while in Vegas? I heard there is a factory outlet somewhere and shuttle buses frequent it during the day?
Also would you recommend the helicopter flight over Vegas at night?
Hey Kat, here is a link to a factory outlet i’ve found on the net www.fashionoutletlasvegas.com but when I was on the wild western we were lucky enough that our bus driver took us to one on our second day there. I’m going to do the helicopter flight for sure. Here is a link to booking it as it shows a video froma
I’ve also found it for sale on zuji for about $88.00 australian.
There are so many great places to shop. Besides the Fashion Mall, Aladdin has mile long shopping with all kinds of stores, Caesar’s Palace and Venetian have a lot of expensive stores where it’s nice to drool over the Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel. Also, if I remember, Luxor had nice shopping as well. Also, Excaliber has really good cookies. Be sure when you’re there to check out the Paris buffet. IMO, ti’s the best buffet on the strip, but get there early or be prepared to wait on line.
Hey Paul & others,
I’ve checked out the fashion outlet website and it looks easily accessible from the Tropicana – and worth the trip too! Also, thanks Paul for adding that link to view the chopper flight! WOW! It looked fantastic! That’s a definite must do and I’ll be looking at booking it before I leave. The Viator website had it for about $87 which is a good price. Would you suggest the first night or second to do this? I think it departs at 8pm…
Thanks for the other tips on where to shop (ie the Aladdin) I think I’ll be poor by the time I leave Vegas! haha
Hey Kat, i’ve had the delema of which night to book the helicopter flight. I would like to do it the night of the Splash show as i’ve seen it before and I have asked contiki which night this happens but was told it is up to the tour manager. I think i’m just going to book it for the second night and just hope thats the night the tour manager picks.I might pay the T.M $5 to make it the first night <!--graemlin:;)-->.You will be able to tell me all about the helicopter flight in San Francisco or New York. When I went to the outlet store I got Levis for well under 1/2 of what you would pay in NZ.
As Sue mentioned, the Paris buffet is unbelievable – make sure you go there completely hungry because there is so much variety. As for the malls in the casinos, they are all quite good. Most have high ceilings that look like the sky that change from day to night. The Excaliber has a good medieval jousting dinner/show in the basement arena. I stayed 2 blocks away from the Tropicana for dirt cheap at the Travelodge. http://www.lvtravelodge.com/newhome.htm
We all called it the “Traveloggio” <!--graemlin::p-->
Thanks for all the tips guys! Huge help.
I think I might look at booking the chopper flight the 1st night so its over and done with then the 2nd night we can PARTAY! hehe <!--graemlin::D-->
What’s this Splash show mentioned earlier? Is that something Contiki arrange?
Also since we’re staying at non-Contiki accommodation, do we need to make our own arrangements for breakfast? Or does the Contiki group just go to one of the nearby hotels?
