Prepaid Sim Card for BlackBerry

Hey Everyone

I'm trying to find a prepaid sim card for Europe that will work with BlackBerry for making calls and accessing email (not BlackBerry email but my hotmail, etc)...data usage basically.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to who is a good carrier to look into? I know O2 in London is good, but the sim cards have to be purchased there and I'd prefer to order something ahead of time.

I'm with Rogers in Canada (if that makes a difference). I know Contiki has the e-kit which has great rates but doesn't work for the BB. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I’ve heard that in general it is cheaper to get sim cards once you have gotten over to europe, that’s all I got.

Getting SIMs in the UK is much different than in Canada. They are VERY cheap and available at corner stores and electronic stores all over the place. You just walk in and buy it, no hassle.

I’m told it’s different though with a BlackBerry if you want data transfer (something to do with BlackBerry restricting prepaid for data…something like that).

I’m looking at this Sim card, which the company looks to be an affiliate sales setup out of MA British Sims – but you still have to activate the card with Orange.

I’ll let you know what I find (for anyone who’s looking).

I dunno if it’d be different with a BlackBerry, but Ive just ordered a prepaid sim through Contiki which saves you money on International Roaming costs etc apparently.
Go to the website: www.contikiekit.com and all the details are on there!

I got a T-mobile UK sim off of Ebay for my G1. Hopefully I can have unlimited data for about Ƚ1 a day.

If not I’ll pick up a 3 skypephone and tether with my laptop.

So you need a SIM with a data plan. Not sure about that. You might want to ask on www.howardforums.com, it is a much more specialised site for this sort of thing.

Data plans in Ontario have all kinds of restrictions in all carriers. They are excessively expensive. You should also ensure that your Blackberry is unlocked, otherwise only SIMs from your carrier will work.

Orange has a BlackBerry service, its really not that big of a deal, most of the mobile sim providers overseas will have a BlackBerry service.

As Curtis said though, you need to make sure your phone is unlocked, as most of the ones sold by Rogers aren’t.
