Is contiki all about the partying?
13 Oct 2012 Jodie asked
I've read lots of reviews that say Contiki involves lots of drinking and while i don't mind a drink i'm not a massive drinker and certainly not a fan of the hangover? Will i be one of the odd ones out or are the reviews i'm reading all a bit of Bull??

We had a few people who didn’t drink at all on the tour and they had an amazing time, as we all did. I’m not much of a drinker myself, and I don’t think our tour in any way compromised the sight seeing in favour of going out to get drunk. The nights out weren’t mandatory in any event – if you were too tired to go out or you’d rather do something else or you just wanted to stay for a round and head back, that was fine. Basically, the choice is yours how much or how little you want to party.

I think most tours have groups of people who want to go out drinking every night, and groups who want to stay in and get some sleep. It just depends who you hang out with, but you won’t be the only one who isn’t a big drinker. I’d suggest going for a Superior/Time Out tour though – those are the ones that stay in hotels as opposed to cabins & hostels or tents. The camping and budget tours tend to be more party-oriented and have a younger crowd. I went on a superior tour back in May (London & Paris plus Rome) and there was only one night where everyone went out together (the Moulin Rouge night). The night after that, only about three of us wanted to go out drinking again, while everyone else went to bed early. I was totally surprised because I had heard about Contiki’s party reputation (and, to be honest, was looking forward to it)… but apparently, it really depends on the tour you booked and the group you’re with. But, like the first person said: no matter what tour you choose, you are never forced to go out and party, it’s totally up to you. The trip is what YOU make of it. I hope that helps a little bit!

I did European Impressions. Think it was around 18 days. Had an absolute blast. Leant so much from our tour guide Ali, and had so much fun. Am planning on going on the best of the USA next.
