Canadians: have you used ATMs in Europe?

Hey all you fellow Canucks!
Ok, so I am planning to mostly use my ATM card while in Europe. I belong to Royal Bank. Now, I've heard that there's 2 types of ATM machines; Cirrus and Plus. (Plus system is used by Royal Bank, I think Cirrus is used by BMO). Anyways, I'm just wondering if any Canadians have used their Royal Bank card in ATMs in Europe, and if there was any problems. Also, does anyone know if having a 5 digit pin number is a problem? It's easy to change it to a 4 number pin, but I don't want to be stranded in front of a European bank machine with no way to get money!
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
