Contiki recommends that you budget $100 NZD per day excluding optional extras, I have been to Fiji before and when I went I had a budget of $100 FJD per day as well but all of my meals were including in the price of my holiday,
I would recommend that you have a look through the optional extras you can do on the trip and work out which ones you would like to do, add that price to the $100NZD/day then add a bit more.
I am going on the Sweet as South tour in Jan which is nine days and have given myself a Budget of $1500 Australian dollars which equals more in NZD. how I worked that out was used the costs associated in the optional extra I wanted to do plus the $100 per day and placed it all in Australian dollars that way I will have extra when I get there once converted to NZD.
Also when I was in Fiji I ended up having money to spare, so it is better to over budget than under budget as there are always last minute things you want to do or buy!- 0 people like this

NZ can be expensive. If you like thrill seeking and think you will do bungee, swings, helicopter flights, jet boating etc you may need more.
Might be a good idea to budget in the bigger activities by doing some googling to find out prices. sites that come to mind are http://www.canyonswing.co.nz/ – www.bungy.co.nz – http://www.shotoverjet.com/ – http://www.glacierhelicopters.co.nz/fox.asp – http://www.taupobungy.co.nz/- 0 people like this
