Well that was a reading mission and a half.
Hi Guys, I am Krystle’s friend Anthony. Keen as for this trip!
Doing all the above already said by Krystle. We depart the tour in Amsterdam and spend an extra night in Germany. I will then be spending some time in Italy meeting the family followed by a couple weeks in the States before coming home. Definitely keen for a dinner the night before to break the ice and meet you all before sharing a bus with you for the next 45 days!

Mission is a good word for it lol I came in around page 10 and finally only just managed to catch up on all the other pages myself! We will have to do a meeting of some kind the night before, for sure :)

Hey everyone, not sure where people are at with Visa’s but Ant and I confirmed with our Travel agent the following for us:
You will need an ESTA visa waiver for the USA
    Nothing for Dubai or Singapore
All through Europe you are ok – no visa needed (including Bulgaria)
Turkey you need a visa but you get this upon arrival
    Nothing needed for Greece !

I know there is alot of conflicting information on the net which is confusing to say the least.

  • 3 Jun 2013 ZAC said

That’s all the same info I got as well as Egypt you can purchase the visa on arrival

Awesome info on the visas Krystle :) thanks! I’ll be in the states before Europe, so I will need that visa.. Its so much work organizing a trip over-seas! More than worth it though. Looking forward to meeting everyone heaps :D

No worries Zoe :) Also seen people were talking about how their taking money over so here is what I know
I have a friend who has traveled all over the world and he said alot of Aussies overseas are using this credit card called 28 degrees – – It does not charge for currency conversion, international transactions, annual fees or overseas ATM cash withdrawal (although the ATM owner may charge a fee) and has an online service centre. (This depends how you feel about credit cards.. me, well I’m not such a fan but I actually think this is a pretty good option) One thing I’ve had trouble pin pointing is currency conversion which I’m going to look into more but would assume it would be the exchange rate determined by MasterCard to be their wholesale rate or the government mandated rate in effect in the day the transaction is processed by MasterCard.
When I traveled to the US I used a cash passport – – There is a choice of single or multi currency passports too which is good.
MULTI – load up to 9 currencies USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, NZD, CAD, HKD, JPY, SGD. You can lock in exchange rates before you travel. Can be used at any ATM displaying the MasterCard logo, including shops and restaurants that accept MasterCard. You can reload your card easily online, topping up your foreign currency from anywhere in the world (although Note there is a charge to do this and it is not instant this includes the initial load which there is a minimum for) No ATM cash withdrawal (although the ATM owner may charge a fee)
SINGLE – There IS a ATM withdrawal fee which the amount depends on the currency on the card. You can reload your card easily online, topping up your foreign currency from anywhere in the world (although Note there is a charge to do this and it is not instant this includes the initial load which there is a minimum for) You can lock in exchange rates before you travel
BOTH – In activity fee applies when card is not used for 12 months and there is a card closure fee of $10

Sorry this is alot of information but just trying to share anything that may be helpful to people as it is all such a big process. These two options both have advantages and disadvantages so every persons situation and preference will come into play.

Hey all, I am getting sooo excited!! YAY! I have been looking at the “metime” options whilst on our tour, there are currently 36 different extras to do throughout our tour (this will include some of the Egypt options) however the total cost of all these extras currently come to roughly $1799 AUD. This includes authentic restaurants in a lot of the cities we visit, bike tours, water sports, paragliding, white water rafting, group photos and t-shirts, car hire if wanted, clubs, a gondola ride, a cabaret show and so much more!! It is totally worth a look! I know for a lot of people, including myself definitely, budgets will be a big part of the tour however I am so excited to try out as many of these as possible!!! What part of the trip are people most looking forward to??

A big hello to all the new people ( Sarah, Lewis, James, Krystle, Anthony ). It’s good to see more people from our tour join us on the forum. Krystle thanks for the info about taking money over. I need to choose one of them within the next 2 weeks and am still a little confused by them all.

Alexandra the answer to your question is all of it. The Eiffel Tower, Louvre and Château Versailles in France. Monte Carlo casino in Monaco. Serravale Designer Outlet mall, Bridge of Sighs, gondola ride, Trevi Fountain, Sistine Chapel and Pompeii in Italy. George’s Boat in Greece. Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza, felucca, Sound and light show at Philae Temple, Visit Abu Simbel’s Temple of Ramses II, Lake Nasser, Valley of the Kings, Temple of Karnak and Red Sea in Egypt. The Grand Baazar, Hagia Sofia, A Turkish bath and The Black Sea in Turky. Whitewater rafting Austria. Oktoberfest and the Glockenspiel Germany. Swiss Chalet and Jungfrau mountain visit in Switzerland. The niglt life of Amsterdam. All the big nights out. These are the mane ones for me.

I would also like to see the Catacombs in Paris if anyone would like to come with me in our free time.

I’m doing nearly everything too haha about two months ago I made a chart with everything’s location and price and then colour co-ordinated how much I wanted to go on each thing( I’m crazy) but yea the only thing I’m super not interested is the parliament tour. Biggest things I’m looking forward to are Pompeii, George’s boat, paragliding and whitewater rafting woo.

Effy I’m totally excited for those things as well, they will be so much fun! And Monique, I’ve been to the catacombs in Paris and they are definitely something to see. I would love to go back and see them again.

I really need to sit down and go through the “Me Time” options. Catacombs sound awesome though, I would be very keen for that.

Hi Monique!! :) I’m also keen for the Catacombs in Paris. Jess we arrive in London on the evening of the 15th and staying at Royal National :) Effy i love your style about your chart, we have a spreadsheet with everything outlined for the trip including the me times so much great stuff to see and do!

  • 6 Jun 2013 Monique said

Thanks Guys. I would really like to see them if we get the time. I don’t want to plan anything for our free time yet until we get the contiki info booklet. So we know when our free time is and if it’s possible. It would suck if we planed it then couldn’t go. Also is there anything else that you guys really want to see in the city’s that’s not on the tour.
