Laptop, tablet, iPad??? HELP lol

Hi guys! I've recently been thinking about what is best to take on the tour? I'm obviously taking my camera and I'm thinking I want something that I can back my photos up on to during the tour in case the worst was to happen and I lost/broke the camera! Have any of you past travelers got any advice on what is best to take in the was of laptop/tablet/iPad?
I'm thinking that my laptop is way too bulky to carry around with me, but I have no idea about tablets and iPads and which is the best, easiest or convenient??
Any tips and advice is greatly appreciated!

I haven’t done a contiki yet, but on my previous travels to Canada and the USA I took my netbook.
