Tipping Contiki Drivers and Tour guides

I was told by my cousin who has taken a Contiki tour before that the driver and guide expect tips from each passenger at the end of the tour. Any idea what an estimate would be on a fair tip per day ratio? My cousin said that if you call Contiki they suggest 2 USD per day for each driver/guide. Is this reasonable? Also, should this tip reflect the quality of job the contiki rep has done or is it purely an expected courtesy?
