If you’re already anywhere near Auckland’s Mercure Hotel prior to per chance, maybe you could store it there. But I doubt it since you’re on the Wellington-Auckland Tour. I would say just bring it with you and they’ll leave tucked under the coach. Also, there should be sufficient space since those on the Scenic Southern have left the tour by then and more will disembark during the Waitomo to Bay of Islands segment. Those are my observations from doing this tour – that there were more participants on the southern tour than the northern tour.
You can always call up Contiki and they should say the same thing.

i did a tour last year and some of the others had two bag and a carry on so do not worry about it
