Hey everyone,

I want to go on a trip to the US next year, however i won't be 21 until September and i'm looking at June.

Would it be worth it because i'm guessing I couldn't drink if I was "underage" or maybe I could get a fakie from a mate before I went.

How strict are they?

Any comments please.

Thanks

I agree with Melsie. Are you here spending how much money on a tour to drink? or see the sites and remember that you saw them. If you get cought with a fake id you could be deported. seriously. don’t do it. What’s your priority? You don’t have to drink to have fun.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Seriously, I am Australian but I DO NOT understand this concept of Australians going on holiday to get smashed…what is it with this culture when it comes to things like that?

I have to admit that I’m at the point of being ashamed to call myself Australian sometimes because of the notion it brings up (ie: drunk yobbo’s running amok)…

hey aidan i went on the grand southern last year and i was underage, and in all honesty it depends how muhc you like to party back at home, see i use to go out quite often back home and then wen i made friends with all these 21+ yr olds on my tour they would go out and get drunk and i wasnt allowed, which was a bummer,in saying that drinking it up and partying is all what its about but,if someone was asking me for advice id say wait till your 21,they are strict over there i got into a few pubs but one night i coulda been arrested for being drunk in a club underage, then stubling out onto the street saying how crap it was that they wouldnt let me drink, low and behold there was a police car right behind me ,lucky for me my friends rushed me back to the hotel, prety funny when i look at it nnow ,but yea id wait dude

Thanks for the advice everyone, some interesting opinions.

Although I must say I didn’t post my question because I had plans to “get smashed” and subcome to the drinking culture, nor to be a “drunken yobbo running amok.” I simply asked because it is fun t have casual drinks, simple.

Thanks again to most of you for your advice.

i did the grand southern at the end of last yr and i was 18
just before i went i started to regret booking because i thought i was going to be stuck at the hotel every night, however this was not the case
there was only a few towns where i didn’t go out, but the tour manager always knew if i would get in or not:
vegas – but there is always something else to do, i went to a fall out boy concert one night
orlando (pleasure island at disneyworld) – but you are exhausted after a long day at theme parks
and also some small towns along the way
you also have quite a few room parties, which actually were the best nights of tour – and if you are stuck in your hotel room, you can always be sure the partying will continue at the hotel when the rest of the group gets home
our tour manager was really good – if i didn’t get into one place, he’d get the whole group to go to another place where i would get in
my thinking is that if you have the opportunity to go then go, who knows what’s going to happen over the next few years
    hope this helps

yeh there is always something to do Smiler
in vagas you can walk into all the casinos anyway Its only when you start playing or ask for a drink they ask you for I.D.. i got 2 play in vagas being 19 coz the guy didnt read my id properly hehehe also orlando we went to pleasure island Yeh pretty tired after the theme parks but they give u a wrist band for access to all of the clubs so i got one from another girl No questions asked.. lol also most of the time i showed my real i.d clubbing and didnt have an issuse. In new york they were abit more strict but there are sometimes clubs for 19+ like webster hall which went off!! umm.. on the big apple explorer we had the best tour manager and he just told the underages to find sum1 on the tour who looked like them to use their i.d and ocne again it was all good.. lol wish i could do it all again.. good luck

Does anybody know how strict they are in other states? I mean I can imagine that LA and vegas would be very strict with making sure that everyone is over 21 but what about new mexico and texas? and louisiana? Is it the same thing or are they more relaxed about it ?

JayJay… they would probably let an infant drink on Bourbon Street in New Orleans lol.

To those of you under 21 worried about getting into a place with a fake ID, that would be the least of my worries. Generally for females that isn’t a huge issue outside of big cities as long as you are dressed to impress… it’s horrible to say but showing some cleavage will distract a bouncer from even the most unconvincing fake ID LOL. Worst thing that happens is they take away your ID and don’t let you in. What you need to worry about are cops. I can’t speak for every state but in Florida cops actually come inside some bars/clubs over the course of the night and randomly ask people for ID. This will get you a written arrest, which I think would definitely spoil your trip. Obviously if you look young or are drawing attention to yourself, you will be more of a target.

That being said…If your tour is going to places like LA, Vegas and NYC, I highly recommend waiting until you’re 21. These cities are home to some of the best nightlife in the world and it would be worth it to wait a few years as some of the nights out in those cities could make your trip that much more memorable. Here in the states it’s pretty much a rite of passage to go to Vegas after you turn 21, and for good reason!
