Although most Amsterdam party animals are more than happy to chill out in the city’s coffee shops, there is some outstanding nightlife to be had in the ‘Dammage’!

Bars

Amsterdam is well known for the relaxed nature of it’s very small ‘Brown’ cafes and bars. The name comes from the often brown walls of many of the city’s small bars that can be found almost anywhere in the city. Other hot spots for the bar scene are the Rembrandtsplein that is surrounded by bars and cafes as is the Leidseplein and the streets that run off it. The Red Light District is also fringed by many small bars offering a huge variety of usually Belgian beers.

Clubs

Amsterdam offers some great clubbing for the hard core. The most well known in the city is the Escape nightclub on Rembrandtsplein. Although a little out of the way, this Amsterdam institution offers clubbing most nights of the week and the doors generally do not open until midnight.

The Leidseplein also offers some great coffees shops, bars and loads of restaurants. For the hard core the Melkweg (Milkyway) and also Paradiso clubs are only a 4-5 minute walk off the square and have some great and varied live acts almost every night of the week.

The Red Light District

Amsterdam’s Red Light District is famous throughout the world and a stroll through the area after dark is certainly a ‘cultural’ experience.
