Arizona is known as “The Grand Canyon State”. Home to one of the 7 natural wonders of the world and most recognizable feature is the Grand Canyon itself. It is also home to part of the “Mother Road” aka Route 66 which runs through the northern half of the state. Tombstone and the OK Corral are in the southern most part of the state near Tucson. Most early western movies were filmed in Arizona either in the Tucson studios which can be visited or up north on the Navajo (navaho) reservation.

Phoenix is the capitol of Arizona and is named after the mythical bird who represents life after death by being reborn from its very ashes to live once more. Southern Arizona is also the home to the Saguaro cactus which is only found in this part of the States. Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport is the main airport located downtown. And is an easy 3.5 – 4 hr drive to the Grand Canyon. If you are into sports its also the home of the Phoenix Suns (Steve Nash) and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

  1. For those with an affinity for the outdoors Arizona is a paradise with enough activities to fill an entire holiday. If you find yourself in Phoenix with a couple spare days get your hands on a four-wheel drive vehicle and head to the Superstition Mountains to the east of the city. There you’ll find the Apache Trail (aka Arizona State Road 88), a truly remarkable drive virtually unrivaled in the Southwest. Great camping, great hiking…good times!

  2. One of the main misconceptions reguarding the state of Arizona is that its all desert. It’s not. Mainly the southern part of the state including Phoenix and Tucson are desert. The Northern half of the state where I-40 runs through and up is mostly mountains or high desert. Flagstaff ,which sits at 7300 feet in elevation and the Grand Canyon are known for getting snow in the winter. While Phoenix in more recent years has been known for reaching 120 durring the hot summer days. Bullhead City is normally the hottest spot in North America on any given day.
