Arizona is known as “The Grand Canyon State”. Home to one of the 7 natural wonders of the world and most recognizable feature is the Grand Canyon itself. It is also home to part of the “Mother Road” aka Route 66 which runs through the northern half of the state. Tombstone and the OK Corral are in the southern most part of the state near Tucson. Most early western movies were filmed in Arizona either in the Tucson studios which can be visited or up north on the Navajo (navaho) reservation.
Phoenix is the capitol of Arizona and is named after the mythical bird who represents life after death by being reborn from its very ashes to live once more. Southern Arizona is also the home to the Saguaro cactus which is only found in this part of the States. Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport is the main airport located downtown. And is an easy 3.5 – 4 hr drive to the Grand Canyon. If you are into sports its also the home of the Phoenix Suns (Steve Nash) and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
