Last Updated: 7th Jun 2012

Although Nice and the French Riviera is more about relaxing, the south of France is also very well known as being a favorite workplace of the many of the greats of Impressionist art. Russian born master Mark Chagall has a whole museum dedicated to him a little inland from the coast while the Fine Arts Museum is also home to impressionist works.

The nearby by town of Cimiez is home to a Museum dedicated to the artist Henri Matisse who lived in Nice for over 30 years. A train ride to Antibes, the second largest town on the Riviera, will reveal the Chateau Grimaldi, one time home to Pablo Picasso, now showcasing the work of the most prolific artist of all time.
