More Tour and Travel Advice for Europe
Contiki uses many different hotels in Athens and you should check your tour documentation for confirmation of your exact hotel.
It is roughly 30€ in a cab from the airport to almost any of the hotels Contiki uses in Athens and Glyfada. Taxis can also become more expensive during the morning and evening due to peak hour traffic. The journey usually takes 20 – 30 minutes.
The Athens airport is relatively small compared to other capital city airports and is serviced but a modern Metro line to and from the center of Athens.
Trains go from the airport directly to and from Syntagma Square in the center of downtown Athens. From there is a little cheaper to take a taxi to your hotel.
If you are finishing your tour in Athens you will have a good handle on the city and its public transport. Either the hotel staff or your Tour Manager will be able to help you out with the best and most practical way to get to the airport.
The stigma surrounding Greek taxi is that they will rip you off. This reputation unfortunately was earned about 10 years old and hasn’t been an issue since well before the 2004 Olympic Games.
Taxis in Greece are generally cheap (like the rest of the country) and are a good, reliable way to get around.
