calgary alberta stampede

Calgary is one of the most vibrant, happening and fastest growing cities in not only Canada, but all of North America. A buzzing and rapidly expanding city, it is perhaps most famous for the Calgary Stampede – one of the biggest and most famous rodeo events in the world.

The original inhabitants of modern day Calgary were the Blackfoot Tribe and they fought long and hard to retain their control of the land. A peace treaty in 1877 ended most of the fighting and created reservations. The city grew with the building of a railroad but really began to boom in the early 2000’s with the growth of the petroleum industry.

Although Calgary’s growth has been rapid, it has also been well planned so in addition to all the housing and people, there has also been a growth in beautiful parks and green areas along with infrastructure such as closed walkways that link the skyscrapers of the downtown area that allow people to move around in even the most severe winter weather.
