English is a often spoken and is understood as a second or third language amongst many Central and Eastern and Europeans, particularly those of the younger generations. As with anywhere you travel in the world, knowing at least a few words in the local language helps and a few of these words may be useful during your time in the Czech Republic, Poland or Hungary.
