Dingoes

Dingoes (singular: Dingo) are a native dog from Australia. On the mainland the pure species has almost been bread out through interaction with introduced dogs however the Fraser Island Dingo is believed to be the purest strain of Dingo in Australia. They roam the beaches, bushland and rainforest of the island freely and have become quite accustomed to the presence of locals and the tourists. Domestic dogs are banned on the island and this has helped keep the species pure.

You can also see Dingoes in places like Currumbin or you may be lucky enough to see on on Fraser Island although you should never forget that they are not dogs, but wild animals and you should certainly keep your distance.

You are not allowed to feed the dingoes as this upsets the natural balance of the ecosystem where they should forage for their own food and the animals then tend to hang around campsites waiting for handouts. Although dingoes are known to attack they usually keep to themselves and even though they look like dogs they are still wild and you should definitely keep your distance.
