Empire State Building

Easily one of the most famous buildings in the world (if only by name), the Empire State Building literally soars above all other sky scrapers of the super-city of New York and a trip to the top of the Empire State is one of the ‘must do’ things in Manhattan.
The building became famous not only for the rate at which it was constructed, but also when completed, it was the tallest man made structure in the world (overtaking previous record holders including New York’s own Chrysler building, the Eiffel Tower in Paris). The fact that it resides in one of the most famous cities in the world also adds to the buildings mystique while movies such as King Kong have also immortalized the structure.
Even though you are surrounded by so many other tall, tall buildings in Manhattan, there are quite a few places in the city where you can clearly see the distinctive top of the the Empire State building above the others and during the evenings the top of the building is even easier to see as it is often lit in different colours.
The views from the 86th floor observation deck (1,050 feet or 320 meters above the street) are easily the best in the city and are simply breath-taking. The building is open until late int he evening so you can take the elevator to the top day or night and when the weather is clear you can see the whole island of Manhattan and the other Burroughs of New York as well as Central Park, New Jersey, the Statue of Liberty and so much more.
Once at the top you can stay inside or walk around outside and also have the option of going a little higher (at an extra cost) up to the 102nd floor for even more elevated views of the city. There is also a gift shop on the observation deck for souvenirs. Fore more information, prices and advance tickets check out the official site of the Empire State Building.
